JWP V1.31 Setup Wizard Notes on installing JWP ************************************************************ *** Why a setup wizard for JWP? ************************************************************ The reason for a JWP setup wizard is to make it much easier for people to get JWP installed and working on their PC. ************************************************************ *** Features ************************************************************ - Works like setup wizards that come with professional software packages. - The setup wizard provides a simple guided installation process as opposed to the tedious setup method described in the JWP manual. - The setup wizard is five files that fit nicely onto three 1.44MB floppy disks - The setup wizard sets up the INI file with the correct settings for fonts and EDICT dictionaries. - Works with Windows 3.1, 95 and NT. - Simpler Internet distribution by using self-extracting zip files. The knowledge of how to use PKUNZIP or where to get it from is not required. ************************************************************ *** What files have been excluded from the setup wizard? ************************************************************ To fit on three floppy sized disks, the folowing JWP files were left out. - German documentation - Replica version of the JWP manual - Recreation files - Vertical 48 x 48 font - EDICT and ENAMDICT dictionaries. Included files are JWP, manuals, text files, 16x16, 24x24, 48x48 fonts and source files. Should you require any of the excluded files, visit 'ftp.cc.monash.edu.au/pub/nihongo/' to obtain them. ************************************************************ *** Turning the Internet download files into JWP setup files ************************************************************ If you have downloaded or received JWPSETU1.EXE, JWPSETU2.EXE and JWPSETU3.EXE, you must turn these into setup files. To do this you must perform the following procedure three times, once for each file. Where ever the files are, locate them with the Windows File Manager (Win 3.1) or Windows Explorer (Win 95 and Win NT). Double-click JWPSETU1.EXE to run the self-extractor. When the program runs, it will display a dialog titled "WinZip Self-Extractor". By clicking the "Unzip" button, Winzip will create a new subdirectory below the current directory, decompress the files and place them in the new subdirectory. When WinZip is finished, click the "Close" button. Repeat this two more times with JWPSETU2.EXE and JWPSETU3.EXE. After this, you should be left with the following five files in the new "Unzip" subdirectory: SETUP.EXE, SETUP.ARV, SETUPMN.ARV, SETUP.A02 and SETUP.A03. To begin the guided installation, double-click the SETUP.EXE file. Tip: Instead of extracting the files to the hard drive, you can directly build a set of setup floppy disks. Prepare three blank 1.44MB floppy disks, label them 1 through 3 and insert Disk 1 into your floppy disk drive. With File manager, double-click JWPSETU1.EXE to display the Winzip Self-extractor. In the "Unzip To Folder" text area, replace the word "Unzip" with "a:\" (excluding quotation marks) if your floppy drive is drive A. Click "Unzip" and WinZip will decompress the files straight to the floppy disk. Repeat this with JWPSETU2.EXE and JWPSETU3.EXE installing a new floppy disk each time. When finished, you should have the following files on three disks: Disk 1 - SETUP.EXE Disk 1 - SETUP.ARV Disk 1 - SETUPMN.ARV Disk 2 - SETUP.A02 Disk 3 - SETUP.A03 ************************************************************ *** Installing JWP ************************************************************ From the floppy disk or hard drive, run the newly created SETUP.EXE and follow the setup wizard instructions. ************************************************************ *** EDICT Dictionaries ************************************************************ As the development of version 1.31 is frozen and the EDICT dictionaries are being regularly updated, at Jim Breen's request, EDICT and ENAMDICT have intentionally been left out of the installation. EDICT and ENAMDICT will be available from the Nihongo archive in the form of EDCSETUP.EXE and ENMSETUP.EXE. Setup wizards have been created for both EDICT and ENAMDICT so their installation for Windows users is also simplified. Although the EDICT dictionaries are not installed, the JWP setup wizard does initialize JWP to look for the dictionaries in the JWP directory. ************************************************************ *** Copyrights and licenses ************************************************************ Copyrights and license details are installed with JWP. Be sure to read and agree to their terms and conditions. The JWP setup wizard is supplied as is. If there are any comments or problems with using the setup wizard, feel free to drop me an E-mail.
