L NT A public domain set of C-functions and E O UE two fonts for working with Japanese kanji. Q THIS SOFTWARE PLACED INTO THE PUBLIC DOMAIN Paris, October 1997 Welcome to EOUE! What you have downloaded is C-code that will help you in writing programs working with Japanese characters, more specifically with katakana, hiragana and the 1945 so-called joyo kanji. EOUE is conceived as an add-on or code-base to your programs, and although a demonstration program is provided in executable form, it is not stand-alone software, but rather for developing new code. The name EOUE consists of the vowels in the word Eloquent, and I have decided to pronounce it 'EE-we' or 'Ay-we' or the like. I expressly encourage you to use my code to make something better out of it - maybe something educational that teaches Japanese, or a small editor. That's what this library is for. EOUE is free, copy and paste whatever part of it you find useful. The reason I made EOUE is simply interest in programming and the Japanese language. I am not a professional programmer, but I plan to add things to EOUE and promote it to a windows environment. Maybe I could write more documentation. VGA.C would have a lot to say, because assembler is not self explanatory. If you find it useful, and you feel like showing your gratitude, send me email: greetings, an HTML document you have made, tutorials you enjoyed reading, home-brew executables, or even an internet privilege like a small webspace, somewhere on this planet. All these would be pleasant and useful surprises, as well as encouragement. LASTLY, Watch out for a thing called LQNT, complementing EOUE to make it more Eloquent... it's really one and the same project, but I haven't got enough time for the moment to get it done... * * Please contact me, letting me know how you get on with EOUE. * Send me e-mail to PATAEL@MSN.COM - if it bounces, do an internet * name search on me. You can always reach me via snailmail: * * Micha‰l Mangelsdorf, * Wilhelm-Leuschner-Str.112, D-64347 Griesheim, Germany * December 1997 Update It now does 640x480 graphics and includes a very buggy version of a JIS-file editor I wrote, which for the moment is only there to demonstrate use of the library. It might be useful for people who want that their software displays kanji.
