About edict_sub_access_v02-001.mdb (2002/07/22) ---------------------------------- This Microsoft Access database file contains information from EDICT version V02-001 dated April 25 2002 Copyright (C) 2001 James William Breen. This version of EDICT has been obtained from the file located at http://ftp.cc.monash.edu.au/pub/nihongo/edict_sub.zip The data contained in this database is subject to all copyright and license information described in the original EDICT documentation. A HTML version of the EDICT documentation can be found at http://ftp.monash.edu.au/pub/nihongo/edict_doc.html IMPORTANT NOTE: This database does NOT contain all data from EDICT but rather the subset available in edict_sub.zip (19975 entries) Version history EDICT version V02-001 April 25 2002 2002/07/22 - Latest EDICT version (V02-001 April 25 2002) This database file contains all the information from EDICT. The data from EDICT was first imported into a SQL Server 7.0 database using ASP (Active Server Pages) scripts running on IIS on Windows 2000 Server. Extreme care was taken for the data to be imported without any losses or mistakes. However, if there were to be any differences between the original EDICT file and this database, please let me know. Corrections to the EDICT entries should be directed to Mr. Breen. A previous Microsoft Access version of EDICT, by Scott Barlow, was available at http://ftp.monash.edu.au/pub/nihongo/edict_access97.zip However that version was didn't contain all data from the latest version of EDICT, since then over 30000 new entries have been added. Also some English entries were cut at 255 characters length because of the data field's length limitation. This database contains all 19975 entries from EDICT subset version V02-001. The "english" field's type was changed to Memo which allows free-length text. The database structure is slightly different from the one edict_access97.mdb had made, although field names were left same, all data is now contained in one table with the following characteristics. edict -- The only table containing all data from EDICT version V01-002 id (integer) Unique ID representing the line number in the EDICT file, excluding the first line of EDICT (version info). Numbering starts at 1 up to 97927. kanji (text (60)) Japanese entry with kanji, blank if no kana entry was provided (as it was in edict_access97.mdb). hk (text (60)) Japanese entry in kana. This is the data found between brackets ([..]) in the EDICT entry, if none this is the text from the beginning of the line up before the first space followed by a slash (beginning of English definition). english (memo) English definition imported as is excluding leading and trailing slashes. Hoping that this can help some developers to use the precious contents of EDICT in their non-commercial Windows applications or Web projects.
